Cinder Dumping/ Ballast

Cinders were graded as Class Two ballast on the N&W and were used in
those locations were Class Two ballast was allowed.

Numerous stops or second class stations had cinder ballast used to make
the platform by the track.  Some platforms were cinders spread over the
ground; some could be 'boxed in' with wood to create an elevated
platform- but not up to car height- or just a level platform on uneven
ground.
