Geographically, maps show that Virginia City is 2.1 miles west of St. Paul, VA, and 8.2 miles east of Coeburn, VA -- both as the crow flies and not as the railroad or highways wind around.

This is a stab in the dark, but wasn't Virginia City changed to "COEBURN" sometime around 1900. I think I remember reading that somewhere.
Another similar one is Estillville, VA, in Scott County which is now Gate City on the old SOUTHERN RAILWAY.

I have been looking for an N&W Map ca. 1893 that is part of the collection of The Museum of Southwest Virginia (Roanoke)showing routes to SW Virginia. Shown on the map is Virginia City (Wise County), no longer a municipality. If anyone knows where I might obtain a copy of the map or has information regarding Virginia City, I would appreciate it.
Thanks,
Keith Sanders
