Just as an FUI, that paint date is valid, however the reason it survived so 
well, is it was indeed painted over, according to my notes in 1969 and that 
coat just washed off over time, leaving the original intact. That date was 
from some field notes I took in 1984.  The newer paint was still somewhat 
intact at that time
